"goodbye" Reflection essay
Over
the course of this year, I have improved in two areas: details and diction. I have expanded my vocabulary, and I have
learned how to make my sentences longer and more sophisticated. I learned how to position the subjects and
the verbs in each sentence so that the reader will stay interested throughout
the whole paper. Also, I learned how
include extra details to make each paper like a movie in the reader’s
head. In each creative essay I’ve done,
I’ve progressively used more and more details to make the papers more entertaining. Details and diction are some of the most
important components in writing essays or narratives, and those are the two
that I’ve improved on the most this year.
One thing that I would’ve liked to work on more this year is creative writing. We only completed a handful of creative or narrative pieces this year, but I wanted to do more. I’m not usually a creative person, but I’m getting better at expressing my feelings through writing. If we had done more creative writing pieces, I probably would be the master right now. Another thing I would’ve liked to work on more this year is poetry. Poetry isn’t my favorite kind of writing, but I wish we had more practice so that I could’ve had the chance to get better. Those are the two areas I wish we had studied more this year.
My least favorite novel this year has been Lord of the Flies. I really disliked this book because all of the characters were childish, annoying, and selfish. I know they were all little kids; however, they all acted too dramatic and irritating whenever there was an issue. They didn’t listen to each other, and they could never compromise. Although, the boys did mature some, they actually became more inhumane. They hunted each other just because they disagreed on certain subjects. I couldn’t relate to any of the boys and I didn’t agree with any of their survival choices, so I really didn’t enjoy reading this novel.
One goal for next is to use better syntax. I find myself using the same sentence structure throughout every paper, so I want to be able to change up my word choices and where I put those words. By taking AP English 11, hopefully I will be able to write with better vocabulary and better syntax. This is my major goal for next year. Some smaller goals include being able to interpret poetry better, have a better appreciation of characters in novels, and being able to comprehend literature easier at a quicker pace. These are all my goals for next year.
